Using Website RSS To Feed The Twitter Bird and FaceBook

Website RSS Feeds

I realised I was missing a trick by under-using the RSS feed from my blog. After all, it’s sitting working away there anyway!

rss toolRSS provides a method to ‘write it once’ and have it propagate over the Internet. I’m sure most people have already implemented something like this on their wordpress site, but for me, I could never understand the triviality of Twitter and some of the banal communications going on (socialising?), but…

Everywhere I go on the internet I see average joes and big players with their twitter addresses on display.

I reckon every time I write a blog post – that is some relevent information to tweet about.

Having set it up to run automatically – I am surprised at the infiltration of the internet carried on a tweet and some of the people I have come into communication with and new websites of interest.

Turning RSS Feed to Twitter using Twitter Feed.

I used FEEDBurner which is now run by Google
https://accounts.google.com/ServiceLogin?service=feedburner&continue=http%3A%2F%2Ffeedburner.google.com%2Ffb%2Fa%2Fmyfeeds

and created a FeedBurner link, in my case for this blog:

http://feeds.feedburner.com/LiveAndWorkAtHome

For the best results using FeedBurner with your self-hosted WordPress site, google recommend the FeedBurner FeedSmith plugin. The plugin will detect all ways to access your feed (e.g. http://www.yoursite.com/feed/ or http://www.yoursite.com/wp-rss2.php, etc.), and redirect them to your FeedBurner feed so you can track every possible subscriber. It will forward for your main posts feed and optionally, your main comments feed as well.

I added and set up the FeedBurner FeedSmith plugin. Download the plugin

I already had my Twitter Account   – else create a Twitter Account.

Go to something like Twitter Feed and register your RSS Feed  and set up permissions. Now everytime you add to your blog – you tweet it!

Each RSS Feed item from your blog will create a Tweet with a link to the item. Only the first 140 characters will be used which includes the shortened URL.

Turning Tweets into FaceBook Posts

Now it is worth going into Twitter /profile/settings and couple your Twitter account to your FaceBook profile or page. http://apps.facebook.com/twitter/ https://support.twitter.com/articles/31113-how-to-use-twitter-with-facebook
